New codecs not working
  • Rickardo June 2012
Hi, I'm using the latest version of CamStudio that's available for download but the codecs aren't registering with it! I've installed the CamStudio Lossless Video Codec v1.4 and the Divx codec pack but neither are showing up in the program. How can this be fixed?
  • Rickardo,

The latest version of CamStudio is in the "Next" folder at Sourceforge and is numbered 2.6c - it does not use an installer (just run recorder.exe) and does require (google for this) Microsoft C++ Runtime Libraries.

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/camstudio/files/next/

You need 7-Zip to un-zip this:

    http://www.7-zip.org/

And the 2010 version of the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime libraries (likely already in your machine)

    x64 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13523

    x386 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8328

Run CamStudio from the recorder.exe file in the folder.

  • I have the same problem, I've installed everything but it still does not show ffdshow on 2.6c
  • btw, I'm on windows 7 64bit
  • computeruser,

Let me know if the solution I gave you in another post and here to Rickardo (same solution) works for you. Are you sure you are running 2.6c? Everyone else had ffdshow appear for them.

On the other hand, noting you have a 64-bit machine, keep in mind that CamStudio is a 32-bit program and will only use 32-bit codecs. So, if you installed the 64-bit ffdshow, it will not appear. Go get and install the 32-bit version also!
