Recording 720P at just 2 Megs per minute crystal quality (h.264 codec)

This tutorial is a few years old but I still see people using old codecs that have large file size, and crap quality.
One caveat is that you'll need to use and earlier version of Camstudio than version 2.6 (For some reason 2.6 doesnt show the codec as available.
Make sure you select the youtube 720p option when viewing otherwise it streams at a reduced resolution

Oh and for some strange reason, you'll need to record sound, as the file size swells without it. (Go figure!!! )
Another thing, reducing the capture area will not reduce the file size, but who needs to at those sizes anyway.

It is possible to edit the videos losslessly using virtualdub with its plugin. So long as you dont require fancy effects

I found a video on youtube of how to record audio from speakers on windows XP. I followed it and from that moment I should have been able to record audio too but sometimes the error "failed to rename/copy audio file " appears.
Can you tell me how to fix that?
I am tired of errors.

Why does Cam studio have the big square underneath?
Wouldn't it be better to either get rid of it and make it more slender, or put some useful buttons on there that bought up options or tools ? I can thik of a few shortcut buttons it could contain, like the magnifiing glass for starters, and maybe a better annotation application.
I can hack them in to a version if people think its a good idea.

Please return Camstudio 2.1 to the downloads. (2.6 has some unresolved bugs)

Please return Camstudio 2.1 to the downloads, as 2.6 will not display ffdshow codecs.
In my opinion this is a huge bug that should be resolved before 2.0 should be removed.

Incidentally, why has it taken so long for this to be resolved? The small gains of 2.6 do not match the loss of losing ffdshow.

When i record without sound rec., the screen recording works ok!
When i try to record with sound rec. on, the screen recording stops! :(

What can i do to fix this?

I have a laptop, with windows xp.

My graphics tablet becomes disabled when I start recording with CamStudio. After closing...

CamStudio it works again? This is not using the Beta and haven't tried it yet. My tablet has the latest drivers and updates. The tablet is a Waccom Bamboo Fun tablet.

I just used CamStudio software for the first time and wanted to say thanks to all the contributors for putting together such an easy to use program. I read the documentation for 5-10 minutes and then I was off creating a tutorial video.

I am a NYC based Google Trusted Photographer, and I used CamStudio to create a short tutorial/informational video about Google Business Photos -- http://youtu.be/3J0VsdaNODk?hd=1

My screen is full HD, so I just recorded the whole area to produce that nice 1080 HD clip. Thanks again folks, its nice to be able to download, learn, and create with a program all on the same day. Projects like this one prove that Open Source works!

URGENT: How To Record Audio From Speakers ?

But I don't know how to find this 'Stereo Mix' thing. Where to find it?

BTW, I dont have the volume icon appear in my taskbar. Duno why

Recording audio adds hours to the video length

I assume this has something to do with the audio compression, but I'm not sure how to go about fixing this. If I just record video only, everything works completely fine. However, when I go to record audio from either my microphone or speakers, the video is always much, much longer. I recorded a 9-minute gameplay video today, and after it finished compressing the audio, the video was 1 hour, 39 minutes long, with everything past 9 minutes being just a black screen with no audio.

I'm easily able to fix this by just trimming off the end of the video when I edit it, and since I save it again anyway to reduce the file size, it doesn't take any more time than it should normally. But I was wondering if there was any way to fix this, or to tell me what my problem is. My settings are as follows:

Audio Compression Format: Cyberlink MPEG 1 Layer-3
Attributes: 64 kBit/s, 22,050 Hz, Stereo, 7 kB/sec (only option available)

Recording format: 22.05 kHz, stereo, 16-bit
Interleave every 1 frame

Automatic recording then start Camstudio

I am using Camstudio since a lot of time, for recording my own lessons at the University, and later making them available to the students on my web site.
On several computers I installed the previous version, and everything worked OK, storing the video at 1024x768, 5 FPS, and the audio at 11 kHz, 16 bits, mono, with MP3 compression (2 kB/s).
Today I downloaded and installed the new version on a new computer. Albeit employing exactly the same settings outlined above, the audio comes out to be uncompressed: reopening the resulting AVI with VLC, the audio stream is said to be pure PCM at 11 kHz, 16 bits, mono, instead of being MP3...
And, of course, the file size is enormous...
I tested with several other available audio codecs, including Microsoft ADPCM, Ogg Vorbis and DivX WMA, but the result is always the same.
I am NOT setting CamStudio to use MCI recording.
My hypothesis is that on this computer some key component is missing, namely something such as an active-x plugin which allows to chain Camstudio with the audio codecs installed on the PC. On the other PC, during the compression, a "FFMPEG" icon was appearing in the status bar of the computer, near the clock, whilst on this computer nothing appears (and the audio stream is saved uncompressed).
What is exactly the missing component, and where can I download and install it?
And why isn't this component part of the standard setup of Camstudio?

I start to use CamStudio and I would like to know if at the place of reduce the Video Frames sequences (ex: 1 per second), is it possible to capture manually (on demand) each of our screen shot? I mean, at the place to reduce the Frames rate, if we could have button where we can just click on to capture screen ... it could reduce considerably the videos size.

Exemple, for 1 hour recording presentation, I would like to record voice but take only few screen shot (in synch with voice on replay).

Can’t transfer photos from iphone to pc!?

There are some photos in my iphone and I have to transfer them to my pc for editing. So I synced my iphone to computer and open itunes. Normally the pictures will appear on itunes but this time the folder was empty! I really don't know what’s going wrong! Could u pls help me...

customize SWF output (or get FLV output)

I'm very happy with what I can do with CamStudio (especially when combined with Dub , but the one issue I have is that the SWF produced has rather awkward UI, which I would like to replace or improve. I've managed to make it look better by messing with the bmp's and ini file, but it still does bad things, such as the play button not working to restart the video (after it has gotten to the end....you must press stop even though it is stopped). Also there is no "dragger" to go to a certain place in the video.

What I'd really like to do is somehow get an equally high quality and small size FLV file, that I can use a player such as this one http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_FLV_Player (which is fully customizable and has a full javascript api which would be awesome)

Are there any options out there to produce a good FLV? Everything I've tried lowers the quality. Alternatively, is there any way to produce an SWF that has better and more attractive controls?

Mozilla is actively blocking hook.dll because some other poorly written program uses that name for its dll. CamStudio should name it something else. Also, it should attempt to load it once and not repeatedly.

I have just downloaded and installed CamStudio_Setup_v2.6b_r294_(build_24Oct2010).exe on an R50e IBM notebook running XP SP3.
When I use the desktop icon to start it I receive the message "This application has failed to start because the application configurationis incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem".
Going into the programs area and clicking the Player link, it seems to open. The other links in the Camstudio programs give the above error.
I have uninstalled and re-installed it without success.
Can you suggest how to solve this problem.

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace tool for more detail.

Odd twist on the "Flashing" problem?

I installed CamStudio on an unused office PC so it could record a Webinar while I continued work on my own PC. I selected the area to be recorded and set several other options, then clicked the red Record button when the 45-minute meeting began. When it ended I walked over to the PC to stop CamStudio. Couldn't find it. Tried tabbing through all open screens/programs but no luck. So I started turning things off like Chrome, open Explorer windows, etc. Still couldn't figure out where CamStudio went, especially when its icon was highlighted in the task bar the way any of my software is when it's active. Opened the Task Manager under Applications and saw something with the CamStudio icon but the name Flashing. No other running applications/programs. It took several tries to kill "Flashing." I thought maybe CamStudio had never actually launched or had crashed during the Webinar. So I went looking for the .avi file and found it, along with a modification date/time that matched when the meeting ended. But with the name ~temp-20120418_1302_40.avi. Windows Media Player can't open it. What the heck is going on?

Recording sound with CS 2.6

Hello everyone, I just joined! :-)

A few years ago I tried the version of CS available then and it didn't work out for me. I'm pretty sure it was because of an inability to record sound the way I needed it to. It could record from a mic plugged into the PC or it could record the sound heard coming out of the PC by the PC's internal mic - which sounded really bad and distant.

I'm about to give v2.6 a try and I read the recent post about sound but I still want to double check on this. If, for example, I video with sound is playing on my PC and the sound is coming out from the speakers, will it record the video's sound directly from the sound CARD - that is, record the audio stereo signal developed by the sound card, so the recorded result is clean and good quality?

Cam won't save videos over 2 minutes?

Hi Guys
I am trying to use camstudio but having a terrible time trying to get it to work! Been on this for 2 days off and on.
One of the problems I have, is a record for 1 -2 minute everything is fine.. but any longer when I try and save, I am getting this error up.
File creation error. Unable to rename/copy audio file.

I have the limited timing on off?

Any help would be deeply appreciated

I have literally been trying to get through a 16 minute tutorial for hours now, and do I even need the external mic? I'm concerned because at one point, I wanted to hear what the mic was doing (configuring it) and it was so garbled that it made me wonder if the lecture I want to record will be also garbled if I use the mic. Will just the speakers pick up the audio? Thanks, it's very confusing...I am not a teckie...far far from it. Many thanks!

K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 8.6.0 Installation VIDEO

Hello,

Followed the video 04a - Installing the K-Lite-Full (or Mega) Codec Pack for recording with CamStudio, but ran into a few problems I don't know how to fix.

First; the K-Lite product setup has changed. There was no "Real Video 1,2,3,4" check box to check.
Second; I was not sure which in the list were encoders and decoders, so aside from making the suggested changes I left the defaults as they were.

Now that I've completed the installation, I found that I have an extra "xVid MPEG-4 Codec" entry in in my Compressor list : (( How do I remove this?

But hooray, I do have the Lame;

Then again; I do NOT have the AC 3-ACM in the Format list for the Audio format; am I supposed to have this?

Also; not sure, but I have a 64-bit system, however I installed the 32-bit version, because I am thinking that CamStudio is a 32-bit program - correct selection?

Afraid to perform an uninstall and start over, because of the changes K-Lite made to my Registry.

In addition, there is an recent update that I haven't touched yet.

Sorry for the barrage of questions. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

(Honestly, I do a lot of installations and pretty computer literate, but this has to be one of the hardest installations I've ever done.)

Lossless Codec Still Not Showing in Options -> Video Options -> Compressor section

I do not see the lossless codec showing up in my list of available codecs (under Options -> Video Options -> Compressor section).
I have tried everything suggested concerning Lossless Codecs:
His suggestions moisamva June 2010, and his andrew_camstudio February 8 , 2012.

I have tried everything mentioned above concerning the issue of the codec did not show up for me either. I started off using ver 2.0, here no codecs, uninstalled the program.

Downloaded CamStudio_Setup_v2.6b_r294_(build_24Oct2010) along with latest codecs, could not get the "Options, Video" to see if any codecs were available.

Tried the regedit suggestions, still a no go.

Tried adding mfc100 and msvcr100, still no codecs so uninstall that version of the program.

Then tried ver. CamStudio_2.6b_r264_build_14july2010. tried everything again, still could not get the "Options, Video" to see if any codecs were available.

Rebooted and shut down computer several times during these steps as well.

Tried going back to CamStudio ver 2.0, now can get passed "Options, Video and see No Compressor available now. Still no codecs.

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate.

Mute Built In Microphone?

CamStudio is excellent. However, I am having difficultly finding a way to mute my built in microphone while still recording audio of the person on cam.

I have tried right clicking on the audio icon on the task bar and going to recording devices and disabling it there, but then it won't work at all. The thing I am disabling there is called Microphone Array (SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC).

I have also tried options in camstudio and then record from speakers but my mic is still recorded as well.

I am using Windows Vista.
