Off-Speaker Sound Recording http://www.camstudio.org/forum/discussion/1274/off-speaker-sound-recording Mon, 20 May 2013 10:58:11 -0400 attempting_touse 1274@/forum/discussions
Truth to be told, I haven't read ALL of the
posts on the subject just yet, but from what
I've gathered so far (both in here and on the
Internet in general) it seems that, on a
Windows 7 laptop (where I've installed
my CS v2.7), the "Record Speakers" option
seems to require the user to modify the O.S.
sound-card configuration so that the "What I hear"
or similar setting is to be made active / available.

Unfortunately - I do NOT seem to have such
a setting (or anything similar) whatsoever,
even though I DO have a sound card (as
I can play MP3 music files, for example).

So when I want to record music or sound
that is playing through the speakers,
it seems that the "lesser attractive" option
might be - to an extent - to use the other
menu command available - which is -
"record off microphone" - even though
the whole point is to AVOID the need for
a microphone altogether - yet the "Recorder"
project DOES seem to be able to pick up the
playing sound, when recording a video - only
with much less quality - as the playback sounds
like what might be heard as of some sort of a
low-powered radio transmission...

Any ideas on how to improve sound quality?

Thanks

Player-Dependent Video Quality http://www.camstudio.org/forum/discussion/1273/player-dependent-video-quality Mon, 20 May 2013 10:29:20 -0400 attempting_touse 1273@/forum/discussions
For some odd reason, it seems that for a new AVI file
to played correctly - meaning with full color and original looks,
then when recording it with CS v2.7 I must make sure that :

1.) I record using the "Active Window" option - as the "Region" option,
for example, wouldn't allow quality output.

2.) I use the "Codec v1.5" (that came with CS v2.7).

3.) If I want to play the resulting video independently, then VLC v2.0,
for example, would play it black & white, tilted, and as if it
has been moved to the side - while Windows Media Player that
is part of Windows 7 plays it just fine, with color and all.

Does that make sense at all?
Isn't an AVI file supposed to be (correctly) playable in any
and all players that support AVI format?

Puzzled,

Johny

VS 2010 Compilation http://www.camstudio.org/forum/discussion/1272/vs-2010-compilation Mon, 20 May 2013 10:12:39 -0400 attempting_touse 1272@/forum/discussions
My question is : how do I compile + debug the "Recorder" project,
from within Visual Studio?

Here is what I've attempted so far:

1.) I downloaded CS v2.7 from the SVN (whatever this is...) as a regular download
and then attempted to open it in Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Edition,
even though there was a "VS 2008 v10.0" tag within the solution file.

2.) The VS converter popped up and started converting -- all the way, something
like 19 projects, however on the subsequent log file it showed that each project
has several warnings (but w/o any errors).

3.) Also, on the Build Configuration Manager, all projects were checked + tagged
as Debug / Win32.

4.) So I used to do a "Build All", and on the message window VS
finally said : 14 projects succeeded, 1 failed, and maybe some skipped.

5.) Next, I set the "Recorder" project as "Start Up", within the Solution window.

6.) Oddly enough, on clicking the "Recorder" project DID run, and I was
even able to start it out (again) via Step-by-step debugging mode.

7.) On other hand, however, the "Recorder" program (while running),
after clicking the red / recording GUI button, did NOT do any recording,
as the flashing corners did not appear - nor did it allow to save any
output (AVI) files to anywhere (it didn't display the SAVE dialog at all).

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Johny

I was wondering whether it was possible to start a new recording while Cam Studio is compressing what I had just recorded? I never had a problem doing this i.e. when Cam Studio shows "compressing _%", I would press the record button and it would work fine. When the compression ended, I could save the 2nd recording as well.

However recently it hasn't worked and instead I get the error message about "Cam Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close" and I lose everything.

Was wondering what could be the reason I could previously record while compressing but can't do so now??

I am aware of Terry's suggestion to use multiple Cam Studio programs to record one after the other but I was hoping that just one program could do it (especially since I somehow managed to do so before).

Thanks in advance for your help. ]]>

I'm using CamStudio to record different computer games I ran over an not-so-terrific system.
It works fine with GTA IV and Need For Speed:Shifts, but for an unknown reason (to me (-:),
I cannot record Call Of Duty:Black-Ops 2. The recording comes out as a black screen on which you can only see the cursor moving.
I tried it on a different computer (better configuration) - same results.
Also tried in "Windowed" mode, which didn't help (I'm not sure he actually ran it on a window mode... maybe it's impossible to run such a game in that mode, or maybe I did something wrong, or maybe the Steam platform interferes).

I would really appreciate any guidance, after failing in finding relevant data on the support forum (the questions always depict this problem as occurring in all the recordings, and in my case - it's only one game).

I should probably mention I'm running on Windows 7.

2. Similarly, when I clicked Options>Get audio from speakers, an error message said: "WaveoutGetSelectControl() failed."

3. When I tried the "Manual Search", an error message said: "Unable to detect recording line for speakers. Please make sure your soundcard is correctly selected in the 'Soundcard Device' of 'Audio Options for Speakers'".

4. When I clicked Options>Video Options>ffdshow video codec>okay, pressed the "record" button, CamStudio asked me to click on the window to be recorded, but then crashed.

The reason why I changed to the ffdshow video codec was because your FAC page advised:

"If you're recording yourself using applications with lots of movement (or recording a film or game playing) use the H.264 encoder in the FFDShow Tryout codec.

http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net"

Well, I guess my hour-long video qualifies as a "movie".

So, I downloaded and installed: "64-bit: ffdshow 1.3.4500".

5. Picture quality is also poor. How can I make it the same as that of the source video?

v2.7: Need help getting MPEG4 output http://www.camstudio.org/forum/discussion/1254/v2.7-need-help-getting-mpeg4-output Wed, 20 Mar 2013 10:49:38 -0400 SDGary 1254@/forum/discussions
I've been trying to generate H.264 mp4 files using CamStudio v2.7 r316, and haven't been able to figure out how.
Ideally, I'd like to generate an .mp4 file directly from CamStudio. If needed, I'm open to generating an AVI file that QuickTime Pro can then read in, and generate .mp4 from there.

I first tried x264vfw - H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec. This generates an .mp4 with H.264 video, but no audio. A
separate AVI file contains the audio, but no video. I tried different settings, but still have this fundamental problem.

Next, I tried ffdshow video encoder. Only the MJPEG and FFV1 encoders run to completion without errors. The
MJPEG creates Motion JPEG video, which QuickTime doesn't seem to like. FFV1 creates an empty AVI file, with the
audio in a separate WAV file.

I also tried XVid MPEG codec. QuickTime does not display video (but identifies it as XVID). I have installed the plug-in,
but can't get QuickTime to recognize/use it.

The CamStudio Lossless codec v1.5 DOES create an AVI file with video and audio, but this must be played in the CS player.

Any suggestions on workarounds for the x264vfw encoder? Or suggestions on how to get QT to recognize XVID?
XVID doesn't have a control panel type interface like X264 does, so I'm not sure how to enable the decoder.
Is there a CS Lossless codec plug in for QuickTime? (I can't find one with google searches).

I'm working under Windows 7 32-bit. FWIW, I started with CS v2.6, but couldn't get the x264 or ffshow encoders
recognized when added. CS v2.6 only saw XVID encoder. My forum searches got me past the v2.7 DLL install issue, but
I haven't been able to resolve the other issues I have.

Any help you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated. I've been trying test after test to identify the issues, but have
run out of things to try!

Thank you!

I'm building a new intranet solution for the company I work for.
Part of it is that we want to create educational videos about how to use their ERP software properly using camstudio.

Our idea was that we wanted to install camstudio on a server (windows server 2008) that has the ERP software installed, so I could just go to whoever I want to record a video with, connect to the server via remote desktop and have everything set up.

Problem is that camstudio somehow only records the mouse when I click, not when it moves. It's though the mouse was jumping around the place in the final video. Increasing the framerate etc. doesn't help either.
I noticed that it got better once I lowered the resolution (though recording at 800x600 really isn't workable). Could it be that the server simply isn't powerful enough to handle camstudio? Or is remote desktop the culprit?

Hope you can help me,

Regards!]]>
v2.7: How to not record "Autopan Disabled" in region? http://www.camstudio.org/forum/discussion/1246/v2.7-how-to-not-record-autopan-disabled-in-regions Tue, 12 Mar 2013 16:23:02 -0400 MarkRH 1246@/forum/discussions
I just started using CamStudio 2.7 (yesterday) and managed to get my video recorded along with audio (have the RealTek HD Audio stuff). I had to enable the RealTek Stereo Mix in Control Panel Sounds and make it the default recording device. I then set the Audio Options in Cam Studio to record from the Microphone. The Speakers option would never record anything. This video was made using the CamStudio LossLess codec.

Anyway, I am doing a Fixed Region recording with a 16x9 aspect ratio that includes the part of the screen I want and since I didn't want it to follow the mouse around I disabled the panning thing. Problem is, a "Autopan Disabled" message is displayed on screen in the bottom-right within the region I'm recording. Would make more sense for this to be outside the region so it doesn't get recorded within the video.

The video I made is here:
and you can see what I'm talking about. Is there some setting or way to not have this show? Otherwise, seems to work great!

Thanks,

I have a problem recording a video using the xvid codec which I downloaded from Doom 9's forum (Gordian Knot Codec Pack 1.9). It installed a lot of different programs (div x, xvid, ffd). I tried recording using the xvid codec since it seems to be quite highly recommended on here.

Anyway, it recorded fine and the audio was great but the only problem I seem to be getting is that the video is jerky. The image quality is rather good but the frame seems to freeze for like a second or so before skipping to another frame and so on.. My settings were:

Set Key Frames every 100 frames
Capture Frames every 1 millisecond
Playback rate 1000frames/sec

Under Xvid configuration:
Profile @ level AS@L5
Encoding type: Single pass
Target bitrate: 8000kbps

I also set my video to a fixed region of 752x580. In addition, I wanted to point out that when I press the record button, a popup window named "Xvid status" appears but it is totally grey/blank. However, Cam Studio still continues to record and I can playback the video, except that it is jerky/choppy. I use VLC media player to play.

My goal is really to record high quality videos which run smoothly (hopefully better than Microsoft Video 1) but which takes up less space than Microsoft Video 1 (the files were too huge and would exceed the 2GB limit in just 10 mins or so)..

Could it be that I should not have downloaded the Gordian Knot Codec pack? Btw, there was also a Gordian Knot Rip Pack but I did not install it. Should I have installed it? I have heard good things about "Jawors xvid" but apparently the link is no longer working.

I would really appreciate your help on this matter.

Thanks!!
